BabelFish™ Sentinel
Watching, acting, reporting, and analysing your valued business assets.
Constantly watching over your data, attempting to analyse patterns, being on the alert for any issues or extreme behaviour in an organised, well-structured way can be complex, overly demanding of time and resources, and sometimes unreliable or unsustainable. Events that may have a significant impact on your operations may go unnoticed, potentially causing production or safety issues.
The performance, condition, and availability of assets needs to be closely monitored. This requires constant vigilance which can be time-consuming. Events may occur that seem inconsequential in isolation, but when linked to other events or processes, may become critical issues that impact production or safety.
Early identification and linkage to other processes to establish the potential impact are critical components to managing and improving operational efficiency.

BabelFish Sentinel’s intelligent real-time data-processing engine is designed to rapidly access and analyse vast amounts of time-series data, from disparate sources.
BabelFish Sentinel undertakes efficient and cost-effective analysis, diagnosis, and immediate notifications and initiates actions based on specific industry business rules. The immediacy of this system offers a significant Return on Investment (ROI).
Configuration: In BabelFish Sentinel, the rules governing monitor functionality, data sources, and outcomes are defined in the various test structures held in monitors. You can configure all of the monitors and tests, according to your business requirements.
Data Retrieval: BabelFish Sentinel retrieves time series data from various data sources using the BabelFish Data Dictionary.
Pre-Processing: Specific conditions (preconditions) must be met before further processing takes place.
Events: An event, and its accompanying state, is defined according to conditional logic.
Processing: Following business requirements, and depending on the type of data that is being tested, different rules need to be applied. BabelFish Sentinel evaluates data using the selected process.
Classification: States are configurable and can be client-specific; they can be mapped to different severity levels. All reports highlight events according to severity.
Event Data Storage: BabelFish Sentinel maintains a reporting database with the history of events across the lifetime of the system.
Actions: Various states can initiate single or multiple actions. These can be standard email or SMS actions, or custom-written actions that execute external processes. Reporting and analysis information can be viewed in the BabelFish Sentinel reports, published into BabelFish for analysis, or exported to be presented as part of another report.
Integration: BabelFish Sentinel has the facility to write data back into BabelFish, where this data can be used for further analysis and integration. BabelFish Sentinel interfaces with the event history to enable BabelFish Sentinel event tags to be placed on a BabelFish page.
Events occur, not in isolation, but within a given context and basis. Single events with no additional information provide limited analysis opportunities. BabelFish Sentinel stores crucial information regarding the time, cause, and duration, behind every single event. BabelFish Sentinel has a web-based interface, making in-depth analysis of events accessible to all relevant personnel, regardless of their own location.
